Shaping the Future of Islam

What is the Mathabah Institute?

Mathabah Institute is a premium private Islamic institute that provides Muslim adults the opportunity to learn Islamic tradition and its application in the modern world from an introductory to an advanced level.

Overview

Studying at the Mathabah Institute equips you to tackle some of the most compelling questions and issues in today’s society. It stimulates your curiosity and encourages you to seek solutions and answers within the framework of authentic Islamic tradition. It helps you develop the skills required as a Muslim to engage in the world around you.

Mathabah Institute’s model of education delivers transformative and appreciative learning. Our philosophy is that Islamic knowledge (ʿilm) should be progressive. It should bring you closer to spiritual enlightenment and greater social benefit. Students should not just absorb knowledge but rather should become beacons of knowledge, connecting themselves and others around them to Allāh the Exalted.

Mathabah Institute is a direct continuation of the tradition of “The pursuit of knowledge” developed in the early days of Islamic scholarship. This model involved travelling to various parts of the world to specific authorities in Islamic scholarship, and acquiring knowledge directly in person from them. Ultimately the student would obtain authorization (ijāzah) from those authorities to teach and transmit to others what they learned from them.

Objectives of the institute

  1. To produce Muslim leaders whose focus is to connect themselves and all those who are around them to Allāh.
  2. To produce traditional Islamic scholars, both male and female, who will:
  • Be deeply rooted in the sciences of Islam

  • Will advance the existing disciplines of Islam

  • Provide practical solutions to contemporary issues

  • Develop techniques in making Islam relevant and pragmatic for the Muslim community in their social context

The name

The name Mathabah is inspired by verse 125 of Surat al-Baqarah. In this verse, Allāh has called the Kaʿbah a mathabah i.e. a place where people can continuously return, take refuge, and congregate. At Mathabah, our institute is open to Muslims of all backgrounds. They are wholeheartedly welcome to come and avail from the courses offered, and the environment provided.

Vision

At Mathabah, our vision is to make the Mathabah Institute a global benchmark for higher Islamic education.
