INTRODUCTION

Producing Islamic scholars is a communal obligation for every Muslim community. The Mathabah Institute provides a platform for this obligation to be fulfilled, but not in a conventional fashion. Students of the Scholar of Islamic Sciences certification program are not just trained to have a command on the classical texts of Islam, but they are also prepared to understand how to apply Islam correctly in their social context. They are prepared to confront the socio-religious challenges of their era, and provide practical, concrete solutions for them. They are the answer to a call that has been made by the community for a prolonged period of time.

Frequently asked Questions (FAQs)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • How is this program different from others? The Scholar of Islamic Sciences program at Mathabah Institute is a 9-year part-time program for male and female students aspiring to be scholars in the field of Islamic Sciences. What sets this program apart from others is the schedule is suited for working professionals and students. We understand people have other commitments in life but also aspire to seek knowledge in the Din, Mathabah bridges this gap by providing the flexibility to pursue an advanced Islamic Studies program with a balanced approach.

  • How long is the program? The Scholar of Islamic Sciences is a 9-year part-time program that offers six courses per year. Each course is a total of 12 three-hour lessons that are delivered twice a week.

  • What will I be studying? Pursuers students will begin by studying the prerequisites to understand advanced level texts. This covers a period of three years and includes: Islamic History, Creed, Sects, Principles of Hadith, Principles of Fiqh. The next three years will be understanding the Arabic Language and students will be proficient in reading, writing, and translating Arabic literature. The last three years will be a specialization in one of the major four disciplines of Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh or Arabic Rhetoric

  • Where will the classes be held? Due to the current pandemic, Mathabah Institute is hosting live classes online through Zoom. Given the situation, we have decided to open the program to everyone worldwide. Once things go back to normal, we expect local students to continue their education in the classroom. Those who are distant from the Greater Toronto Area may continue to join the classes online.

  •  What is the schedule for the class? We will release the times of the days shortly. It will be twice a week in the evenings (EST).

  • Are there any prerequisites to take this class? Usually we require students to take the 3 courses in the Islamic Essentials Certification before applying to the Pursuers program. However, we will allow students to enroll in the Pursuers program, but they will be required to complete the Islamic Essential courses before they complete all pursuers courses. More details on the Islamic Essentials Certification can be found on our website.
  •  What madhab is taught in particular? The Hanafi madhab is taught in the orientation phase. However, when we get into specialization then it’s not just focused on one madhab.
  • If I did some advanced Islamic education at another institute can I still join Mathabah? We will have to do an interview to see exactly what qualifications that person has acquired and what they have studied. If they meet our standards, then inshallah we can facilitate that.
  •  When will the program start? The program will start in January 2021 InshaAllah.
  •  Has a class graduated for this program? No, a class has not yet graduated. The oldest class is entering their sixth year.
