Our comprehensive Arabic course is meticulously designed to guide students on a transformative journey from beginner to advanced proficiency over the course of three years. Split into six distinct modules, this course offers a deep dive into the intricacies of the Arabic language, enabling learners to master the foundational aspects, intermediate nuances, and advanced complexities of Quranic grammar and classical Arabic texts. By the culmination of the program, students will possess the ability to read and understand the Quran with depth, as well as appreciate the rich literary heritage of classical works. This course not only focuses on linguistic skills but also on understanding the beautiful nuances, providing learners with a well-rounded education in Arabic that is both enriching and enlightening.

Modules in the course
Topics: This module aims to help students recognize the different categories of words and understand the various properties of a noun, including its use in forming fragments and sentences. By the end of this module, students will be capable of performing grammatical analysis on nominal sentences.
Texts Studied: The module includes selections from “Applying Nahw,” the “Madinah Books,” and the “Mathabah Arabic Beginner’s Guide.”
Outcome: Students will gain the ability to translate basic Quranic fragments and select nominal sentences. Additionally, they will learn to compose basic Arabic sentences.
Duration: 3 months.
In this module, students will learn:
- The basics of Arabic grammar, including an introduction to the subject.
- The signs of a noun and their four properties.
- How to use pronouns and adjective fragments.
- The identification of pointing nouns and the structure of association fragments (idhafa).
- The concepts of compound association and special Mudhaf.
- Understanding and applying Harf Jar and Harf Nasb in sentences.
- How to construct and analyze nominal sentences.
- The grammatical analysis (tarkib) of texts.
Topics: This course is designed to teach about verbs, the components of verbal sentences, and provide an introduction to morphology.
Materials Used: The curriculum includes selections from “Ten Lessons of Arabic,” “Applying Sarf,” and the “Madinah Books.”
Outcome: Students will develop the ability to conjugate verbs, translate basic Quranic verbal sentences, and effectively use a traditional dictionary.
Duration: 3 months.

- Introduction to Verbs & Components of Verbal Sentences
- Past Tense Verb Chart
- Using Pronouns with Verbs
- Types of Objects (Maf’ul)
- Present Tense Verb Chart & “Baabs”
- Mansub and Majzum Forms
- Commanding and Forbidding
- Negation: Methods for Negating Sentences in Arabic.
- Grammatical Analysis (Tarkib)
- Introduction to Derived Words, Ism Fa’il, and Ism Maf’ul
- How to Use a Dictionary
- Understanding Passive Voice (Majhul)
- Advanced Morphology (Sarf Kabeer)
Topics: This module focuses on intermediate-level grammar and morphology.
Materials Used: The curriculum incorporates “Applying Sarf,” “Applying Nahw,” selections from “Madinah Books,” “Zad al-Talibeen,” and “Qisas an-Nabiyyeen.”
Outcome: Students will be able to directly access beginner-level Arabic books upon completion.
Duration: 6 months.
In this module, students will learn:
- Forms 2 through 10, with an emphasis on understanding their unique patterns and uses.
- Essential grammar concepts that are crucial for morphological analysis.
- Verb patterns, with a focus on variations introduced by different vowels.
- Special verb forms, including:
- Mithal (verbs beginning with a weak letter),
- Ajwaf (verbs with a weak letter in the middle),
- Mudha’af (verbs with a doubled middle letter),
- Naqis (verbs ending with a weak letter),
- Lafeef (verbs with more than one weak letter), and
- Mahmuz (verbs beginning with a ‘hamza’).
Topics: This module aims to provide a deeper understanding of Arabic particles through the study of “Sharh Mi’ata Aamil.”
Texts Studied: The curriculum includes “Sharh Mi’ata Aamil,” along with selections from “Zad al-Talibeen” and “Qisas an-Nabiyyeen.”
Outcome: The primary goal is to enhance students’ ability to read Arabic texts without diacritical marks.
Duration: 6 months.
In this module, students will learn:
- Fi’l Naqis: Detailed study and understanding of deficient verbs (verbs ending with a weak letter).
Topics: This course focuses on advanced grammar and guided readings of classical works.
Materials Used: The curriculum includes “Tajeel un Nada” and selections from various classical books, including those on tafsir (Quranic exegesis), hadith (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad), and fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
Outcome: Students will develop the ability to independently read classical books.
Course Description:
In this module, students will engage deeply with mostly classical works of Arabic. Through this immersive experience, they will refine their understanding of advanced grammatical structures and expand their ability to interpret and comprehend classical Arabic texts. This course is designed to bridge the gap between intermediate-level knowledge and the advanced proficiency required for direct engagement with the rich literary and scholarly tradition of the Arabic language.

How does this course work?
A student must be able to read Arabic proficiently, not necessarily understand it or write it. A good measure is the basic ability to read the Qur’an.
Approx. 3 years commitment.
This course is online with a live instructor and a teaching assistant.
Classes are 3 hours each on Monday and Wednesdays. There is also a TA session held once a week for assistance if needed – approx. 1 hour.
$155 + tax per month for 10 months or $1750 for the year.
Yes you will receive an Arabic Language Certification from Mathabah Institute outlining your successful graduation in the program.
Yes. Exams, homework, and assignments are all part of the program.
We advise all students to commit for the 3-year term. We understand circumstances arise that may hinder continuation in the program, therefore a student may withdraw if they wish to do so, however, the fees paid will not be refunded for that portion.

Instructor
Ustadh Tamseel Ahmed
Ustadh Tamseel Ahmed was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and moved to Canada in his early teens. He completed his secondary and post-secondary education in the Greater Toronto Area. Ustadh Tamseel has a tremendous passion for teaching Arabic grammar. His charisma has appealed to many young people within the Peel Region, and he continues to inspire a growing number of people through the programs he holds in the community.
He holds a bachelor in Engineering from Ryerson University, and has been working in Engineering for the last several years.
In 2008, Ustadh Tamseel took up traditional Islamic studies at the Islamic Society of Peel, where he studied the dars-i niẓāmī curriculum under Shaykh Omar Subedar. He graduated with a certificate of Scholar of Islamic Sciences and Arabic Literature in 2016.
