Jazāk Allāh Khayr/ Thank you for contacting Mathabah Institute.
Lamb from any country can be rendered ḥalāl if all Islamic slaughter requirements and conditions are fulfilled, which entail the following:
- The slaughterer must be sane and Muslim, Jew or Christian.
- A blessing or recitation incorporating the name of Almighty God must be articulated by the slaughterer at the time the lamb is being slaughtered.
- The lamb must be alive during the ritual slaughter.
- At least 3 of the 4 arteries must be severed (trachea, esophagus and two jugular veins).
(See: Al-Bināyah Vol 11, Page 528, Dār Al-Kutub Al-Ilmīyyah, Tafsīr Al-Rāzīy, Vol 11, Page 293, Dār Iḥyā Al-Turāth)
If you are referring to the lamb of New Zealand from a specific abattoir, slaughter plant, company or farm, we are unable to comment on it’s ḥalāl status as we have not observed the process and procedures there, nor have you provided any name of such plant or company.
“Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allāh, and [those animals] killed by strangling or by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns, and those from which a wild animal has eaten, except what you [are able to] slaughter [before its death].” – (Qur’ān 5:3)
“So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of God has been mentioned, if you are believers in His verses.” – (Qurʾān: 6:118)
“And do not eat of that upon which the name of God has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience.” – (Qurʾān: 6:121)
“The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them” – (Qurʾān 5:5)
“’Abd Allāh ibn Abbās (may Allāh be pleased with him) used to say, “You can eat any [permissible animal] that has had its jugular veins cut.” – (Muwaṭṭā Mālik 1050)
