In Islam, a couple can agree to certain conditions for their marriage. In modern day, this is known as a prenup. There is no Islamic objection in agreeing to acceptable conditions or signing a prenup. The couple in question can always find another imam to officiate their ceremony. – (See: Aḥkām Al-Qur’ān, Volume 3, Page 285) [1]
It is worthy to note that in many countries, such as Canada, polygamy is prohibited by law, therefore, the officiant may have refused to perform the marriage due to legalities.
“O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts.” – (Qur’ān 5:1) [2]
“The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, “The condition worthier to be fulfilled by you is the one by which you made the sexuality [of your wife] lawful [for you].” – (See: Abū Dāwūd 2139) [3]
Only Allāh knows best.
