Question:
When I was not Muslim, I bought a guitar. Now I do not want to keep it or use it. One of my non-Muslim friends asked if he could buy it from me. I want to know if it is permissible to sell the guitar to him, or donate the guitar without taking money? I do not want to keep the money if I sell, instead give it away as ṣadaqah (charity).
Answer:
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم
In the name of Allāh, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Jazāk Allāh Khayr/ Thank you for contacting Mathābah Institute.
It is allowed for you, in the described scenario, to sell the guitar to your non-muslim friend thereafter donate the amount to charity. – (See: Rad-Al-Muḥtār, Vol 6, Page 391, Dār Al-Fikr[1])
Only Allāh knows best.
